About Us

Strengthening the Voices of Women with Disabilities to Actively Participate in Climate Change Policy and Negotiations (STREVOW) is a project by the Inclusive Climate Change Adaptation for a Sustainable Africa (ICCASA) and the Centre for Minority Rights Development (CEMIRIDE). It aims to empower Women with Disabilities (WWD) in East Africa and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to actively participate in climate change policy and negotiations. Funded by the Africa Climate Change Fund (ACCF) of the African Development Bank (AFDB), this project is committed to amplifying the voices of WWD, ensuring that they have the right tools, knowledge and information to be part of climate change programs designing and implementation. The project is being implemented in Burundi, Comoros, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Seychelles, and Uganda.

Our Objectives:

  • Enhance the technical skills and leadership capabilities of women with disabilities in climate change policy and negotiations.
  • Promote gender balance and inclusivity in climate decision-making processes.
  • Create safe and supportive platforms for women with disabilities to advocate for their rights and interests in climate policy.

Our Approach:

STREVOW employs a multi-faceted approach to empower women with disabilities, including:

  • Capacity Building: Providing training on climate change issues, policy analysis, advocacy, and communication.
  • Networking and Collaboration: Fostering partnerships and networks between women with disabilities, government officials, and civil society organizations.
  • Advocacy Training: Equipping women with disabilities with the tools and techniques to advocate for their rights and interests.
  • Inclusive Policy Development: Supporting the development of climate change policies that are inclusive of women with disabilities.
  • Participation in Climate Negotiations: Facilitating the participation of women with disabilities in national and international climate change negotiations.

About ICCASA

The Inclusive Climate Change Adaptation for a Sustainable Africa (ICCASA) is a NGO committed to building climate resilience amongst communities in Africa through a gender-transformative approach.

Together with Partners, ICCASA is committed to reducing gender inequalities through breakdown of deep-rooted gender stereotypes that impede progress towards greater parity in climate adaptation, resilience and mitigation.

In addition to being an NGO, ICCASA is an inclusion think-tank supporting African governments, organizations, companies and communities to adopt and design gender transformative approaches in their programming. Our work in inclusivity has a strong inclination towards disability inclusive solutions.
